The new packaging solutions, adopted by the company during the year 2017, allow up to a 63% weight reduction for paper packaging, achieved with 55% recycled material.
Casalgrande, 26 November 2018 – CONAI, the National Packaging Consortium, selected the Gruppo Romani project as one of the winners of the fifth edition of the “Contest for prevention and packaging sustainability”. Promoted by CONAI and sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, the contest awarded manufacturers and packaging users who revised their packaging with a view to eco-sustainability, promoting the most innovative and eco-friendly solutions placed on the market in the 2016-2017 period.
“To arrive at a synergistic balance between productivity and wellness – explains Paolo Romani, AD of the Group – eco-sustainability has a significant place in our company policy and in our development and investment strategies. This important recognition, which is in addition to that already achieved in 2016, – Romani continues – confirms our company’s commitment to the environment”.
The operation that earned the CONAI award for eco-design of packaging for Gruppo Romani was based on the new Ekoroll packaging machines installed on the two selection lines in the Rubiera plant which allow primary packaging in boxes to be slimmed down. More specifically, on the sizes where it is applicable, the new procedure allows for a 63% reduction in the primary paper packaging weight. Naturally, the percentage of weight reduction increases proportionally as the size of the individual tile surface increases. Furthermore, 55% of the paper roll used for the packaging frame is made up of recycled material.
